Nebraska loses to UCLA: Score 36 - 30

A loss for Nebraska
Oh what a game for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sat. Sept. 8th. This blogger didn't know what to expect from the opponent (UCLA) since I have never seen them play each other. Ever. My expectations were cautious but my hopes were high.

Martinez played so well last week against Southern Miss and I knew the defense needed to step it up. However, the game was a match, game, set in the first half and the game was tied at 27.

There was a transition taking place before the half and Nebraska was crumbling before my very eyes.  The mistakes during the game were overwhelming.

Mahrer, the kicker missed a couple kicks, not much to say about the defense and Martinez seemed to revert backwards and lose his momentum and concentration. It was somewhat of a trainwreck. I thought they would go into the locker room and come back geared to "Get rrr done."  Nothing doing.

As for Martinez he had several interceptions and I lost count. As I commented on my Facebook page, "Hey Nebraska,  stop with the turnovers. You're not a dessert!"

The huskers should be proud of themselves as they did hold the score down when it could have been a "runaway" game for UCLA.

The Cornhuskers lost due to loss of focus.

Maybe there was too much sightseeing in Los Angeles for the players and I heard there was an earthquake.  I'm not sure if that happened while the team was out there but they were rattled about something.

Oh well, on to next week. Shake it off Huskers and Go Big Red!!

Game Prediction for Week Two & more

College football is in full swing and tomorrow (Saturday, 9/8) is the Cornhuskers second game of the season with a road trip to California, the Huskers will be playing UCLA and game time is 6:30!

Unless you're flying out to the game, watching the game or going to your favorite place for viewing the game, show your ethusiasm by flying your Husker flag and screaming Go Big Red so we're heard from Nebraska!

Quoted with thanks from ESPN College Football Predictions:

I checked the stats for NE vs UCLA game and they only had a spread of Nebrasa leading 4 points. "Oh no, that can't be true." Below are very different spreads. Ugh--It may be a nailbiter. Follow me on Twitter on Dee4huskers as I will be providing info that you may not hear on the TV.  Stay Tuned!

So I found today's prediction for battle in California as follows:
Adam Rittenberg: UCLA looked good in its opener, but so did Nebraska, and the Huskers appear to be a more complete team in 2012. Despite Rex Burkhead's injury, Nebraska has more than enough firepower as Taylor Martinez returns to his home state and racks up four touchdowns (2 pass, 2 rush). The Bruins give the Blackshirts a few issues, but Nebraska prevails after a big fourth quarter. ... Nebraska 33, UCLA 28

Brian Bennett: The Bruins showed some better offensive weaponry in their opener against Rice and will make this game a high-scoring, Pac-12-like affair. But Nebraska has more options on both sides of the ball, even without Burkhead. It's a big day for Ameer Abdullah, who runs for 100 yards and scores on a kickoff return. ... Nebraska 42, UCLA 31
Thank ESPN for the use of the above information.

Word is that Rex Burkhead will travel to California with the team but as for him playing--it is still up in the air because of his knee injury against Southern Miss last week. More information at Huskermax.com.

And who is Ameer Abdulluh?  http://www.huskermax.com/games/2012/vid/02/h.html
#8  Abdullah, 5-9, 185, So., Homewood, Ala., I back.....  I will write a feature on #8 this upcoming week,  So check back tomorrow for updates and next week for a closer look at Ameer.

I am rapping this up with a quote from Bo Pelini, "I think we’ve had some pretty good preparation, and ready to go get it. Take this show on the road.”

So get this show on the road and  dominate UCLA. Go Huskers!

Recap of Southern Miss Game

Just an fyi for all you Husker fans, Nebraska games or highlights can be seen on the Big Ten Network at various times in your area.

QB Martinez has special weapons to work with and they are Kenny Bell, Ben Cotton, Rex Burkhead, Quincy Enunwa,  Tyler Wullenwaberm, Jamal Turner  and Ameer Abdullah. This blogger is amazed by the yards achieved after the catch or when they have defensive players trying to take them down. The offensive players' legs continue to churn and gobble up additional yards. They won't be denied.

He is quoted as saying that he wants to have a 70% completion rate compared to the last couple years. He did have an outstanding game and QB Kellogg came in at about seven minutes remaining in the game.

Per Cornnation.com they have an article providing info on Martinez's goals. It is a good article and something that all Husker fans should read. Its is "Taylor Martinez Completion Percentage: His Goal Should Not Be Your Expectation" and the the link is http://www.cornnation.com/2012/8/7/3225260/taylor-martinez-completion-percentage-his-goal-should-not-be-your.

I also saw another article in our local newspaper, that Martinez's lofty goals shows immaturity. Per the above link there is a percentage rate chart for former Nebraska QBs dating back to 1969. Jerry Tagge had an impressive 63 in 1970 and that is the highest percentage to date.

Next week Nebraska will be going to Pasadena to the Rose Bowl to play against UCLA on 9/8/12 at 6:30 PM CDT on Fox.

I will be back in the middle of the week with score predictions and injury reports.

Nebraska Wins First Game Against Southern Mississippi

What an exciting and much anticipated season! Nebraska started their second season in the Big Ten and today was a scorcher on the field and in the air.  The temperature on the field was upwards of 93 degrees and word is that many fans were assisted out of the stands due to heat related issues. Definitely understandable since the stands are always packed and the sun beats down of the east side of the stadium.
The final score was Nebraska 49 and Southern Miss 20.

I enjoyed watching the game on TV as I also listened to it on the radio with earbuds. It's amazing how much more information is provided on the radio and there is about a five to ten second delay on TV.

Unfortunately, Rex Burkhead, a huge force for the offense of Nebraska, came out of  the first quarter due to a knee injury. He sat on the sideline with ice taped to his leg. Word is that he twisted his knee. Let's hope he's not out too many games. I'll report more on his injury once I learn the details.

Talk was huge about Taylor Martinez and honestly Husker fans were unhappy in the past but never gave up on him as a player and his athleticism. His passing game was incredible and his mechanics which has been a source of contention for the past couple years has improved because of off season training.. Martinez was just interviewed and he had over 300 passing yardss which was huge and he said "it was okay." Obviously, that's an understatement.

Brett Maher, who had the opportunity to kick two field goals, missed them. Coach Bolini stated that work needs to be done on special teams. No doubt.

During the first quarter the defense was a little lackluster but turned it around in the second half.

Amonte Cross, Martinez, Kenny Bell, and Rex Burkhead were huge play makers but a game can't be won without the entire team pitching in to pull in the Win.

There was 600 yards of offense with no turnovers. It was a heck of a football game.

Thanks for reading my blog and I'll report any updates out of Nebraska Nation once I learn of any news.
Have a good week and next week Nebraska will be playing UCLA in an away game. Time to start planing.

One of the highlights for this blogger is the tunnel walk. As a marketer and as a way to get the team and crowd pumped, I loved to see how they utilize the Tunnel Walk.  Please see the official Tunnel Walk for Nebraska-Southern Miss game, 2012 – HuskerMax™

Go Big Red!!

2012 Nebraska Football Schedule

Every year for as long as I can remember I create a current football schedule. And this year is no exception however I was a little slow in making it available to others but here it is. With luck and my fingers crossed you should be able to print it in color 8 x 11.

I'm not perfect so if you find any mistakes, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Today is our first game of the season against Southern Miss on ABC at 2:30 CST. According to my sources Nebraska is favored to win by 14 points with a score of  34 and Southern Miss.  That is good news for Husker fans.

Feel free to print the Nebraska schedule. Go Big Red!

Enjoy the game and I'll be back after the game for a recap!
