What an exciting and much anticipated season! Nebraska started their second season in the Big Ten and today was a scorcher on the field and in the air. The temperature on the field was upwards of 93 degrees and word is that many fans were assisted out of the stands due to heat related issues. Definitely understandable since the stands are always packed and the sun beats down of the east side of the stadium.
The final score was Nebraska 49 and Southern Miss 20.
I enjoyed watching the game on TV as I also listened to it on the radio with earbuds. It's amazing how much more information is provided on the radio and there is about a five to ten second delay on TV.
Unfortunately, Rex Burkhead, a huge force for the offense of Nebraska, came out of the first quarter due to a knee injury. He sat on the sideline with ice taped to his leg. Word is that he twisted his knee. Let's hope he's not out too many games. I'll report more on his injury once I learn the details.
Talk was huge about Taylor Martinez and honestly Husker fans were unhappy in the past but never gave up on him as a player and his athleticism. His passing game was incredible and his mechanics which has been a source of contention for the past couple years has improved because of off season training.. Martinez was just interviewed and he had over 300 passing yardss which was huge and he said "it was okay." Obviously, that's an understatement.
Brett Maher, who had the opportunity to kick two field goals, missed them. Coach Bolini stated that work needs to be done on special teams. No doubt.
During the first quarter the defense was a little lackluster but turned it around in the second half.
Amonte Cross, Martinez, Kenny Bell, and Rex Burkhead were huge play makers but a game can't be won without the entire team pitching in to pull in the Win.
There was 600 yards of offense with no turnovers. It was a heck of a football game.
Thanks for reading my blog and I'll report any updates out of Nebraska Nation once I learn of any news.
Have a good week and next week Nebraska will be playing UCLA in an away game. Time to start planing.
One of the highlights for this blogger is the tunnel walk. As a marketer and as a way to get the team and crowd pumped, I loved to see how they utilize the Tunnel Walk. Please see the official
